In a harrowing crime on the early morning of June 27, 2023, Cúcuta became the scene of another tragic massacre as armed assailants mercilessly took the lives of three siblings within the confines of their own residence.
The victims, identified as Deisimar, Marilaudir, and Edison Daniel Montañez, were residing in the Brisas del Mirador neighborhood, situated in Comuna 8 of Cúcuta.
Colonel Carlos García, the acting commander of the Metropolitan Police of Cúcuta (Mecuc), reported that law enforcement swiftly responded to the residence, discovering the lifeless bodies of the two sisters. Meanwhile, the young man had already been rushed to a medical facility, succumbing to the severity of his injuries.
The gruesome attack involved not only gunshot wounds but also multiple stab wounds inflicted upon the male victim. Disturbingly, local witnesses recounted hearing over 20 gunshots during the assailants’ assault on the Montañez family.
“Our working hypothesis suggests a dispute over micro-trafficking control. Search warrants were executed at that very house in March. The deceased today, Edison Montañez, had been previously deprived of his freedom and was under house arrest,” declared Colonel García.
The perpetrators, in addition to their heinous act, pilfered several household appliances from the residence. It is noteworthy that Montañez had narrowly survived a prior attack in April. Authorities are diligently investigating whether the two female victims were connected to the same micro-trafficking network or tragically caught in the crossfire during an attack seemingly directed at their brother.
