In a chilling incident, Nariño bears witness to another grim chapter as three men are discovered brutally murdered and tortured in El Peñol. The latest massacre in Colombia unfolded in a rural area near El Tambo, leaving authorities grappling with the brutal nature of the crime and the potential motives behind the killings.
The victims, found bound and lifeless inside a burned vehicle, displayed signs of torture, pointing to a possible settling of scores. The disturbing scene was reported by the community to the police, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Colonel Wilson Siza, the commander of the El Peñol Police, provided details of the discovery, stating, “In a rural area, through communication from the community to the Police, they deploy their capabilities. We arrived at the site where they provide us with information, where indeed we find two bodies tied up by hands and feet.” The verification process also led to the discovery of another victim in an abyss, further complicating the rescue and identification efforts.
The Secretary of Government of Nariño, José Obregón, expressed the challenges faced during the rescue operation, stating, “There is a situation that occurred in El Peñol, a reported massacre, two people who were murdered and found next to a car, and there was a person who had fallen into an abyss. Therefore, their rescue and identification were difficult, also because it was not initially visible in the area but was there in a small abyss next to the road.”
The region, known for the presence of dissident factions of the FARC and the ELN, raises concerns about the security landscape. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify the victims and uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic massacre. The community awaits answers and justice as the investigation unfolds.
