In a distressing continuation of the recent surge in violence, three individuals were found dead at the exit from Ipiales to Aldana in Nariño. According to authorities, the victims were allegedly associated with a criminal group operating along the Colombia-Ecuador border, with the unsettling revelation that two of them were foreigners.

The National Police brought attention to the grim discovery, revealing that the victims, all males, are believed to be members of criminal factions embroiled in illicit activities on the border. Colonel Wilson Siza, the Police Commander in Nariño, provided insights into the disturbing incident.

“Last night, unfortunately, we learned that three people were murdered. These individuals had prior records, aliases, and were part of a gang allegedly committing illegal acts not only in Ecuador but also in Colombia, specifically along the border. Two groups have claimed responsibility for the incident, marking the result of a fierce struggle or dispute over criminal profits,” explained Colonel Siza.

The official further disclosed that information from illegal groups involved in territorial disputes has been obtained. These groups self-attributed the events, a detail that is also under thorough investigation by the police.

“Fortunately, the police possess crucial evidence, including casings, photos, videos, and statements, which could aid in determining the material author. There is even information about vehicles that played a role in the event. The casings suggest that the assailants were armed with both long and short-range weapons,” elucidated the official.

As authorities delve into the intricate web of criminal rivalries and territorial disputes, this incident serves as another somber chapter in the ongoing wave of violence gripping Colombia. The border region, known for its complexity and susceptibility to criminal activities, remains a focal point for law enforcement efforts to ensure the safety and security of residents.
