Early Indications Suggest FARC Dissidents as Potential Perpetrators

In the early hours of Sunday, December 3, 2023, Colombia witnessed its 88th massacre, casting a dark shadow over the town of Palmira in the Valle del Cauca department.

The horrifying event unfolded around 1:00 a.m. in the Calucé hamlet, Potrerito district, where three lives were tragically taken. The victims include two young individuals, aged around 20, and a 15-year-old minor.

Preliminary reports suggest that the victims were enjoying their time in a nightclub when the tranquility of the night was shattered by the arrival of armed assailants who unleashed a hail of gunfire.

The Technical Investigation Body (CTI) of the Attorney General’s Office promptly conducted a thorough technical and judicial inspection at the crime scene.

In response to this senseless act of violence, the Police of the Valle del Cauca department has announced a reward of 30 million pesos for any information that could lead to the apprehension of these perpetrators.

As the community grapples with the shock and grief of this brutal incident, local authorities are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible. The early conjecture points towards the involvement of dissident factions of the FARC, underscoring the ongoing challenges posed by armed groups in the region.
