In a joint operation, the Colombian Navy, aided by the Colombian Aerospace Force and the U.S. Joint Interagency South Task Force, successfully seized a staggering 1.2 tons of marijuana and 73 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride during a high-stakes maritime interdiction mission off the southern coast of San Andrés Island.
The meticulously planned operation was set into motion following intelligence reports received by the naval forces, highlighting a suspicious vessel navigating the Caribbean Sea. Swiftly responding to the information, the San Andrés and Providencia Specific Command deployed Rapid Reaction Units (URR) and an Aerospace Force aircraft, which, in collaboration with a naval patrol boat, initiated aerial search patterns leading to the identification of the targeted “Go Fast” motorboat.
Coast Guard operatives intercepted the vessel, discovering four individuals on board along with multiple packages containing substances deemed suspicious. Further inspection of the surrounding waters revealed additional packages that had been jettisoned into the sea in an attempt to evade confiscation.
The intercepted boat, along with its crew, was transported to the San Andrés Coast Guard Station, where Judicial Police conducted the Preliminary Homologated Identification Test (PIPH). The results were positive, confirming the presence of 1241.80 kilograms of marijuana and 73.10 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. This substantial confiscation not only disrupts the operations of criminal groups involved in drug trafficking but also deals a significant blow to their financial interests.
The three Nicaraguan and one Costa Rican individuals captured during the operation, along with the seized contraband, have been handed over to the relevant authorities. This successful operation underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain security in the region.
