Piamonte, Cauca, Colombia – A horrific attack on a school bus in Colombia’s Cauca department has left two people dead and other injured, sparking outrage and prompting calls for security measures.
The incident occurred on the road connecting the Brasilia town with Piamonte’s urban center on Monday. Criminals opened fire on the clearly marked school bus, carrying minors, killing two persons and injuring several others, including a 53-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl.
Authorities are investigating the attack, which they consider a violation of ceasefire agreements and international law. While the perpetrators haven’t been identified, the area is known for the presence of illegal armed groups like the “Comandos de Frontera” and the Carolina Ramírez front, raising concerns about their involvement.
Human rights organizations and local communities are demanding immediate action to protect civilians, particularly in rural areas heavily impacted by armed groups. Military operations are underway to restore security, but the attack highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the region.
