Colombia’s Constitutional Court is at the center of a developing situation after several magistrates reported experiencing illegal interceptions of their communications. The Attorney General’s Office has responded by launching a full investigation.

The situation came to light after Magistrate Jhon Ibáñez filed a complaint alleging unauthorized monitoring of his phone calls and online chats. This prompted a meeting between the magistrates and Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón on June 19th.

Following the meeting, the Attorney General’s Office announced a swift and thorough investigation. They committed “all resources at the entity’s disposal” to determine the extent and impact of the alleged interceptions.

The Constitutional Court has also emphasized the need for discretion throughout the investigation. They firmly denied any leaks from the Attorney General’s office and stressed the importance of protecting the complainants and their families.

This incident raises concerns about potential government overreach and the security of sensitive communications within the Colombian judicial system. The Attorney General’s investigation is expected to shed light on these allegations and determine the cause of the reported interceptions.
