In a major law enforcement victory, the Colombian Police has successfully apprehended Pouya Mohmini, an Iranian-German citizen, in Cali, Valle del Cauca. The arrest, conducted in the Ciudad Jardín neighborhood in the southern part of the city, revealed Mohmini’s use of the alias Reza Raskshan to elude Colombian authorities. This significant breakthrough is the result of a collaborative operation involving Colombian authorities, Interpol, and the German Federal Criminal Police (BKA).
Facing extradition to Germany on drug trafficking charges, Mohmini has been tied to a substantial drug shipment exceeding 16 tons of cocaine from Paraguay to the port of Hamburg, Germany. Although authorities managed to locate and seize the illicit cargo, the operation marked a historic milestone as ‘the largest narcotic seizure on German soil by customs agents in February 2021,’ according to official documents shared by Colombian authorities.
The successful capture, orchestrated through joint efforts by Colombian investigators, Interpol, and the BKA, confirmed Mohmini’s true identity despite presenting himself as Reza Raskshan during the arrest. The Iranian-German individual, flagged with a red notice from Interpol, underscores the global nature of his criminal enterprises.
Of note, Mohmini is wanted for extradition by authorities in Hannover, Germany, on multiple charges, including drug importation, drug trafficking, and arms trafficking. Following his arrest in Jamundí, he has been handed over to Colombian immigration authorities and awaits deportation to Germany. This high-profile arrest highlights the effective international collaboration in the fight against transnational crime and drug trafficking, showcasing the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in both Colombia and Germany.
